Malaysia and Singapore

Malaysia and Singapore

We recently took our first holiday in years (UK trips don’t count as we are normally shooting weddings!) so we decided to revisit Malaysia as we hadn’t been for a while plus we can never say no to a few days in Singapore! We went with friends who had never been to Malaysia so we started off being tour guides around Kuala Lumpur which is still as chaotic and noisy as ever! We love going around the back streets of Asian cities and finding old traditional buildings especially when they contrast with new modern buildings in the background! This photo is part of the old Railway Station: completed in 1910 it was built to British standards and apparently can withstand 3ft of snow on it’s roof! KL lights up at night, this bank building wouldn’t look out of place in a Batman movie and below, of course, the famous Petronas Towers! On to the relaxing part of the trip with a few days on the island of Langkawi. The island is the land of legends with one particular one being that the island was cursed which held back economic growth but with the birth of the 7th generation from a woman known as Mahsuri the curse was broken, Langkawi was declared a duty free island and has since enjoyed increased tourism. Langkawi means reddish brown eagle in colloquial Malay and arriving by boat at the capital of Kuah you are greeted by a giant eagle! Unfortunately for our few days on the island there was haze from the annual forest burning so there were no clear blue skies. Fortunately it didn’t stop the sun reaching the beach but it did make for some interesting photos of the islands in the bay! We had been looking forward to photographing a jetty on the hotels property but it had been damaged by a stray boat during a severe storm a couple of months ago! On to Singapore! This is one of our favourite places in the world so we never miss an opportunity to visit, catch up with friends and ………..they have the most wonderful shoe shops! Again there is a great mixture of historical buildings contrasting with modern day towers. This is the beautiful Raffles Hotel where one must partake of the famous Singapore Sling! Once home to the GPO, The Fullerton Hotel is surrounded by modern day skyscrapers. The Marina Bay area has recently been redeveloped with the now famous Marina Bay Sands hotel, shops (yes, more shops!), entertainment complexes including a casino and the new Gardens by the Bay capturing the essence of Singapore, the garden city. Every night there is a laser show lighting up the hotel...

Belinda and Martin

Last weekend we met Belinda and Martin in Mornington for their shoot. We are blessed in this area with so many beaches to choose from and on this occasion we chose Royal Beach just in case we needed to dash for shelter in the pub as rain was threatening! The rain held off but it was rather cold, although you wouldn’t think so when looking at the photos! Belinda and Martin will be getting married at Werribee Mansion in a few weeks so it will be nice to return there...
